I did this recording undercover back in 1995 with my holophonic system, i felt very sick that evening but didn't give in because I didn't want to lose the gig, I was damn right, the concert was beautiful and well worth the effort, at the end of it, I was so worn out that my friends had to literally sustain me fisically to bring me home, but I was very happy anyway, because I knew I've captured on tape a fantastic live performance from a fine, elegant and sophisticated artist.
A lot of effort has also been poured in this post production mastering, since the volume in the theatre was so quiet, that I really had to pump up the sound very hard, to achieve the presence you hear listening to this final version, and this is the reason why the roaring of the crowd is so aggressive, even though I managed to level everything to create a good listening experience, that won't force you to change volume levels on your amp every time cheering starts at the end of a song.
Obviously, doing this, involves a collateral effect, every minimal noise in the hall, during the performance, gets magnificated, so, I also had to sweat bullets cleaning up everything (people talking, coughing, sneezing and every other noise) that would distract the listener's attention from the sheer musical performance.
I think I've managed to achieve a very good result, but it's time now for you to judge…
